We’ll dismantle NRM govt – Mao

Written by Michael Mubangizi
observer, Thursday 19 May 2011 20:14

The government and its security institutions have repeatedly insisted that there is more than meets the eye in the opposition’s walk-to-work campaign; that the real motive is to remove President Museveni from power.

Now, the Democratic Party President General, Norbert Mao, has told The Observer that the high fuel, food and commodity prices are just symptoms of a bad government they want to remove.

The broad agenda is to “dismantle [President Museveni’s] leadership through non-violent defiance campaigns,” Mao said in an exclusive interview.

In a letter dated May 17 and circulated to the media, President Museveni said the architects of and participants in the walk-to-work campaign, particularly FDC leader, Dr Kizza Besigye, have a “sinister” agenda.

“Ever since Dr Besigye started the latest of his treacherous ‘walk-to-work’ – those who did not know the history of these groups started saying: ‘let him walk. What harm is there?’ … Those who were of that view did not know the ever constant hidden agenda of these groups,” Museveni wrote, adding: “Those who were of the view that the ‘walk-to-work’ was harmless were wrong.”

According to Mao, walking to work is an important way of drawing attention to the problem of a government that is illegitimate and doesn’t care about its people.

“So, while we treat the symptoms of high fuel and food prices, we must continue rocking the foundations of this illegitimate government so that Ugandans get a better government,” Mao told The Observer early this week.

He also revealed that in spite of efforts to keep him and Besigye apart during their detention in Nakasongola prison, the two were able to discuss “important issues” uninterrupted under the guise of watching prison football matches.

On the President’s proposed constitutional amendment to deny bail to people accused of murder, treason, defilement, rape, rioting and economic sabotage until they have served at least 180 days on remand, Mao said they are ready for jail.

“If President Museveni chooses that everybody who disagrees with him should be in jail, we’re ready for that. Let him take all of us to jail. That will still expose to the world who he really is,” Mao said.

Ofcourse every one knows the purpose of the walk to work protests which i think any sane uganda should support. museveni's long stay in power must come to an end in a peaceful way and the only way that can happen is through peaceful activities like walk to work. south africans made it why not ugandans?

Way to go MAO
written by Mukiibi , May 18, 2011

Museveni is already exposed. He will never meet any western leader again till death meets him. He is already toxic in western countries, and he is now left to dogs like Mugabe, Moi and Kibaki his fellow election thieves.

The emperor has no clothes, its really sad to see and hear Museveni talk these days. You can almost predict what he is going to say, the nine million kids in school as compared to the 2.5 at independence, the roads he has constructed as compared to which we had during independence, the 60 megawatts of power we produced compared to the 350?? blah, blah, blah...its really sad!!

Everyone is almost tired of this guy, even the kids in Kenya and Tanzania are questioning the political and economic union with a guy who doesn't wanna leave power at the same time brutalizing Ugandans!

How safe can they be if he becomes the EA chief?
The western world have seen his egoistic backward thinking shrinking the freedoms of Ugandans.
If this thing goes on for one more month, Museveni is history and that will be good riddance.

Wolokoso!!!
written by Chris Leer , May 19, 2011

Mao, I did not expect you to become 'wolokoso' If you continue the way you are moving, it will be your end to political mileage.

Avoid that wolokoso and get to work!!!!!

Opposition needs 2 fronts for a better Uganda
written by Stephen Kakooza , May 19, 2011

It is true that some people have a very background that they always believe in violence and claiming to be in power forgeting that power will at any one time change hands. Its unfortunate that Museveni's hencemen have learnt nothing from Obote's power hungry UPCs.
While NRM has lost credibility, we should not forget that the opposition is also divided. Parties need to create 2 fronts, one that confronts with Museveni lead by Besigye, Mao & Otunu and another that looks at having a common dialogue among the different parties including NRM. This second one should involve, religious leaders, all independent MPs, NRM leaders who see things the right way and less confrotational opposition MPs like Hons. Mugisha Muntu, Jack Sabiti,Cecilia Ogwal, Latif Ssebagala,Medi Ssegona and Mathius Mpuga. The wayforward for Uganda is 2 way; either we fight and kill each then later come to a round table like it happen with Kony rebellion Or we isolate Museveni and his radicals then look at Uganda beyond Museveni through sharing notes and building concensus on important decesions that affect our people, such as the rising fuel prices, escalating food prices and corruption. This will create a platfrom of win-win situation to avoid the expensive wars that we went through to overthrow both Obote and Amin regimes

M7 is nolonger innovative
written by Masereka Zeno , May 19, 2011

Dear Ugandans we are in a hot world of poverty, hunger, climate change and disease. Sane gvts do take care of its citizenry, M7 went to the bush b'se of rigged elections not to develop this country & save it from the fore mentioned problems.

Let us rise up against this monstrous insane regim led the this resurected idi amin, who has no innovative ideas of taking this country forward, but busy planing how to perpetuate A Kaguta empire

AMAIZING !!!
written by H. AKOT , May 19, 2011

One of the founding fathers of the Kenyan Nation, who led the struggle for independence from the British Rule was the current Kenyan Prime Minister’s father – ODINGA ODINGA.

He later spent most of his life in independent Kenya under House Arrest confined to his house & compound under constant police surveillance until his death !

Ugandan opposition leadership led by the late Milton Obote, led the negociations that took place at Lancaster House in England which later paved way for a peaceful transfer of power from the British to Ugandans. There was no arm struggle for the independence of Uganda ! Nevertheless, Uganda lived & still lives in a state of war, tribal hatred & division created & kept alive by the current government in order to stay in power.

Tanzania which has had no civil unrest since independence receives little or no recognition from the International Community ! Tanzania resorted to renting/selling part of its land to China for foreign money it needs badly for development

The East African Court based in Arusha in Tanzania is barely recognized by the big Democracies that have made no attempt to help bolster the court to enable it to stand up to East African dictatorship & bad governance !

The time is now to assist in the road map to democracy in Tanzania before its population become edgy like the Ugandan & Kenyan one.
The developed Western Democracies should stop hitherto supporting all kinds of bad governance abroad and instead encourage good governance by assisting countries like Tanzania before they turn to civil wars as a means to survive !

Western democracies should be reminded that the wars they enter into does not solve any problems but create more problems, even for themselves – refugees, distraction, hatred…..Not to mention the fact that their own populations are very very nervous about the influx of refugees created by these wars ! Let alone the coasts of these wars to their tax money !

This is the time the International Community should say NO, NO, NO to the Ugandan self styled god Museveni & suspend all assistance to the Ugandan evil dictatorial military junta ! By continuing assisting Museveni’s divisive rule, they are maintaining dictatorship in Uganda at the expense of their own democratic principles

This also calls for Ugandan Opposition leaders to come together, forget about party differences, unite your ideas & forces to build a concret viable alternative programme ready to take over and lead the nation.

Now is the time to form a Shadow government with Shadow Ministers ready to take office when the time comes! Your places now is not in prison but with the population, finding out their needes, how to handle them immediately

This means mobizing the whole country under ONE OPPOSITION PARTRY/LEADER to say NO TO MUSEVENI ONCE AND FOR ALL & BY ALL UGANDANS - in UNISON !
You will go back to your different political affiliations after having put Museveni out "together as ONE PEOPLE and after putting Uganda on the road to Unity, Development & Progress!"
This is a DUTY all Opposition Leaders in Uganda have & it is priority & overdue !!!

The people of Uganda are waiting for LEADERSHIP, I think this is not so difficult for opposition leaders in Uganda to understand!

Mr. OBAMA has never opened his mouth to the plight of millions of poor Tanzanians, Kenyans & Ugandans. Though I admire him for staying away from such a mess by not comming to Kenya & Uganda to endorse bad governance !

But, there is no excuse for Mr. OBAMA's silence ! I would love to see him give help to the East African Court in Arusha to to bolster & make the Court be in a position to issue arrest warrants to Museveni & Kibaki for crime against humanity due to their greed & thirst for power at the expense of the poor !!!

TO MUKIIBI
written by DAVID , May 19, 2011

The crap that you've posted by degenerating into the "think-tanks" of the Kenyan and Tanzanian kids tells it all, that is, your mentality is both slavish and babyish.

Unlike your god, Besigye, who's hell-bent on roaring politics of the hammer (which even was used to smash his car), tsunami and other political thunderbolts, a shrewd and far-sighted leader worth his salt is supposed to focus on the wellbeing of his compatriots by putting more emphasis on issues like education, health, electricity, roads etc, which out of stupidity you're blaming M7!

So what a hell are you meaning by your unfortunate sentence,"Everyone is tired of this guy...."?, and where did you undertake the polling exercise?, because the presidency of M7 is only and only determined by the Ugandans and presently he's 70% popular. So why sour grape?

Its high time you put aside your wishful thinking of M7 going in a few months and join hands with the Movementists for the development of Uganda because you'll soon develop high-blood-pressure if you don't give up your continous mumbo-jumbo on the blogosphere.

NRM already dismantled.
written by ronie , May 19, 2011

While m7 now is regarded as the hitler of africa by europe and the west,NRM respect in the face of ugandans is no more, its aparty of thugs.

TO YOU DAVID

HAHAHAHAH ,VERY FUNNY DAVID. 70% POPULARITY FOR M7 IN UGANDA, HAHAHAH I REALLY DID NOT KNOW THAT WE STILL HAVE SUCH MENTALLY POLITICAL MIDGETS IN UGANDA LIKE YOU DAVID. HAAAAAAAA

Mr David is a blind man
written by Seezi Sewagaba , May 19, 2011

Unless you are blind, you cannot fail to se the pathetic condition of roads, health service, electricity and education in Uganda.Hardly a day passes without an electricity beakdown.

Patients at Mulago hospital died one day because the electricity went off which was supposed to run their life supporting machines. The health service is the most sick patient in Uganda.Money meant to build roads is stolen.Even the roads which are built, are build with sub-standard methods in order to steal money.Roads which were built to impress CHOGM visitors are already crumbling due to shoddy work.

TO GGOMBA
written by DAVID , May 20, 2011

Well, if you dispute M7's 70%, so what was his score if we're to go by your household's tally centre?, its now three months, so why a hell don't you bring your results(read garbage) and you table them before the electorate(read Ugandans)?. Btw, you the court to dispute this NRM/M7 win?

In the run up to the 2011 polls, your preferred candidates a la Besigye, Mao, Otunnu et al vowed to sweep away the NRM administration through their hyped "people power", so now, where is this purported force that they were blabbering about?

Since you're at pains to answer the above simple questions, am left with nothing but to only pity your neck because its being burdened by a head just full of cotton wool!

The roads that are in a sorry state are those in regions that have for ages been under the influence of the opposition like Kampala.

With the taking over the control of the city by the central government thanks to the Kampala law(2009), this is going to be history very soon.

As for the corruption at Mulago Hospital, the government in 2009 set up the Medicines and Health Services Monitoring Unit (MHSMU) under the stewardship of Doctors Diana Atwiine and Achiro Hope, to investigate the rampant theft of drugs and corruption in the health sector.

The fruits of this unit are there for all and sundry to see except for the Ssewagabas of this world whose brains are still frozen in their home refrigerators.

About the fate of the CHOGM roads technocrats, please read: www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/12/681093 and from these, i hope your bloody brains will be de-iced.

TWO PRESIDENTS, ONE COUNTRY.
written by Kanjobe , May 20, 2011

Uganda has two Presidents; The President of the people is Kiza Besigye while the president of Uganda's wealth (oil, land Tax collections) is Yoweri Museveni.

syndrome

The rumour going around down have it that m7 has developed a dangerous disease since his election. thats why he messed the w2w situation.

TO SSEZI SSEWAGABA
written by DAVID , May 20, 2011

My friend, me think that it's you who's blind and thus can't discern issues to the letter thanks to your absent mindedness, hoping that you're not residing on the Mars.

Infact these are the major areas of concern that the president has been talking about over and again, only to be let down by the corrupt technocrats in the respective departments and ministries.

Take a look at Mulago Hospital, you find that there was rampant corruption, abuse of office, embezzlement of funds, absenteeism of the medical staff etc, but all this rot has been unclogged thanks to the efforts of the Medicines and Health Services Monitoring Unit (MHSMU) under Dr Diana Atwiine.

www.razor.ug/razor-life/health/mulago-director-fired-over-deaths/

As for the issue of the sorry state of the roads, for those of Kampala you need to blame your opposition representatives especially the Mayors who've been running the City Hall for the past decade.

On the otherhand, for the highways under the government jurisdiction like that of Entebbe-Kampala, you need to be informed that the major culprit, Eng Samuel Bagonza, who oversaw its construction in the run up to the CHOGM was apprehended.

www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/13/720299

Although i appreciate that all the ills you mentioned above take place, take some time and inquire what the government has done to address them instead of ever living in negativity and pessimism, that's when your criticism will sound constructive instead of mere politiking.

to DAVID
written by katamba , May 21, 2011

Mr David i dont agree with u.like Mr Mukiibi has said, since 1986 mr Museveni has been telling us the same issues, electricity, roads, healthy etc.

Now 26 years of his presidency, still singing the same song. The best we can do for him is to give him a guitar as he did with the another rap.The roads we have are MIKWESESE GYA MMESE,electrity very costly and un affordable, then healthy care very worst i.e no drugs,no ambulances etc.

So please Mr David be informed that we all like, love and admire Mr Museveni but the truth is that he has run out of ideas due to overstaying in power, the problem which he used say was the only african problem in the 1980s.

way to go

south africa...
written by jon doe , May 22, 2011

did it not so peacefully as I remember. It was an undercover war, of roadside bombs, assasinations, economical sabotage etc.

On the other hand, the apartheid regime had all the cards in their hand, a non violent protest, as it was at the beginning, impressed no one in Pretoria and people where just shot in the streets, taken to secret prisons, their homes invaded or openly beaten, when people took to the streets.

Mao and his tales!
written by Jane , May 22, 2011

Dream on Mao. A person trying to dismantle a well entrenched gov't like Musevenni's doesn't do it in a half hearted way like Mao & co. Really, walk to work on only monday and thursday morning(about 2 hours), then ride back home in your air conditioned 4 wheel drive, while calling press conferences for the rest of the week to ensure your face is still on National TV.

You are the biggest joker! If the W2W campaign continues like this then he is only doing this to keep himself busy since he has no paying job. I think his time would be better spent giving pro-bono legal advice for compesation to those injured during the riots he instigated. This would at least redeem him.
